Chris Sanders is one of New Zealand’s top emerging singer-songwriters whose unique ability to write songs that appeal to young and old alike have seen him achieve two #1 hit singles and a #1 album in the last 2 years alone.
Chris started out as a covers musician in his early twenties, which saw him perform almost 2000 live shows in pubs and bars around New Zealand. It was in his mid twenties that he started to dabble in a bit of songwriting and develop his skills as a lyricist. The very first song he wrote called ’21 and You Changed My Mind’ was included on a NZ on Air Hit Disc with the likes of Neil Finn and The Topp Twins and he subsequently went on to release an EP ‘Home Away From Home’ in 2007 and do some support slots for Tim Finn (Crowded House), Anika Moa, Dave Dobbyn, Evermore and many more.
In 2013 Chris wrote and released a rocky song called ‘I Wanna Live Forever’ after an encounter with a highly regarded American scientist called Dr. Bill Andrews who was, you guessed it, trying to make people live forever. The song became so popular amongst the scientific community that Chris was flown to San Diego in the USA in 2016 and 2017 to perform at a scientific medical conference in front of 1000 delegates. The song also went on to feature in the most watched 9 episode Norweigan TV documentary viewed by over half a million per episode.
But it was in Chris’ mid thirties when he says his songwriting jumped to a new level on becoming a dad. He drew new inspiration and started to write books with music about events and experiences in his Children’s lives, experiences that most children and their parents can relate too.
His debut book with music ‘Angel Star’ was released in 2016 and went straight to #1 in the iTunes Children's Charts, #8 in the across all genres iTunes Chart.
In early 2018 he was commissioned by St John NZ to write a song teaching kiwi children how to react in a medical emergency and call 111. The ‘111 Ambulance Song’ became the highest ever charting kiwi written kids song reaching #1 across all children’s charts and #2 in the all genre iTunes chart. The subsequent book released called ‘Call For The Ambulance’ also went on to be a best seller with over 5000 copies sold in the first 2 months. He also completed a schools tour performing to over 20,000 kids in just 20 days.
In September 2018 Chris released his debut Children’s & Family album and book ‘These Memories Make You and Me’ which went on to reach #1 across the children’s charts and #2 across all genre album charts.
Funded by NZ on Air the album takes families on a journey through different stages of their life together. From the very first moment parent and child lock eyes with one another to looking back in wonder at how quickly your child has grown – and everything in between!
Almost all of Chris Sanders music releases have been produced by Kiwi icon Rikki Morris.
In 2019 Chris is releasing an EP of more ‘grown-ups’ songs as well as more children’s books and songs.
